Having more energy and feeling good about ourselves are just two of the reasons why it’s important to eat foods that are good for us. The thing is though, while it’s easy to want to do the right thing, it’s often pretty hard to know what that is! The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010 recommend consuming between 20-35% of our calories from fats! If you want to get fat (and stay fat) that sounds like a great idea.
Other health professionals have a markedly different opinion. Caldwell B. Esselstyn from the Cleveland Institute, recommends a much lower daily amount of fat – 10% of total calories. His research focussed on preventing and reversing heart disease.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention website report that over 1/3 of Americans are obese. This is a shocking statistic. Knowing this, do you really think it’s right to be eating up to a 1/3 of your calories as fats?
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If you are fat and don’t want to be, have a serious think about the types of food that you’re eating. Being fat isn’t always about eating too much food. It’s often much more about, eating the wrong kinds of foods.
So what sorts of things are good for our health? Whole foods, the closer we can get to un-processed foods, the better. Eating some apples is much healthier than eating apple pie! Boiled potatoes are better than french fries.
Eating a wide range of fruits and vegetables and lots of them, on a daily basis is one of the best ways to re-vitalize and re-energize our bodies. A simple way to make sure that we get enough of this kind of nutrition is to use a juicer to turn our fruits and vegetables into a great tasting drink. There are lots of different brands on sale across the country today. Check out some of these exciting products: Breville Juice Fountain Elite, Omega VRT350HD, Green Star GS-1000. They’re not cheap – but don’t you think your own health is a good investment?
