<p>To become a personal trainer, you can get certified through one of the popular certification programs.  ISSA, the International Sports Sciences Association, is one of the more popular certification programs.  They offer a nationally accredited certification program for $499 that teaches you the scientific background of personal training.  Graduates of the ISSA program have gone on to successful careers at popular fitness centers such as Curves, Lifetime Fitness, and Urban Active.</p>
<p>As a personal trainer, you will help people achieve their personal health and fitness goals as well as motivate them and inspire them to live healthier lives.  Some personal trainers go on to get additional certification or degrees so that they can teach fitness classes or offer advanced nutritional advice.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Back in June, a co-worker of mine was involved in a horrific car crash that left her in a coma.  The accident was, as expected, emotionally devestating for her family, although the prognosis from the doctors was positive &#8212; she eventually would recover from her injuries and lead a normal life, although she would have to go through extensive physical therapy for at least a year.</p>

<p>However, some issues arose during her coma that could have been easily resolved had she used a health care <a href="http://power-of-attorney-form.net/">power of attorney form</a>.  The medical staff felt that she should undergo a procedure on her left leg that would enable her to regain more mobility eventually, but the procedure would cause a longer recovery time.  Because she was in a coma, she could not make this decision on her own.</div>
<p>She had a living will, but she only specified three situations in which someone else could make medical decisions on her behalf, and her current state did not qualify.  State law only allowed her son, who only had an eighth grade education, to make decisions on her behalf.  Her mother, who is a registered nurse, would have been a better candidate for making the choice, but state law did not allow her mother to make the choice on her behalf.</p>
<p>She was happy with the choice that was made after she regained consciousness, but the situation could have turned out differntly.  Now that she is out of the hospital and on her way to recovery, she has created a health care power of attorney that names her mother as the agent in case anything happens in the future.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t wait until it&#8217;s too late to create a health care power of attorney like my co-worker did.  Her situation turned out fine, but you don&#8217;t want to risk your future health when the solution is simple.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With tobacco smoking routinely banned in most public areas in the United States and the evils of tobacco being preached from every public forum you’d think that cessation devices and healthy alternatives would be expected to be encouraged and promoted—especially by the lawmakers and policy gurus.  Why is it then that the federal government in the US has gone out of its way to block, harass and disparage <a href="http://www.ecigaretteshop.com">electronic cigarettes and the practice of vaping</a>?</p>
<p>E-cigs deliver doses of nicotine in a non toxic vapor which approximates tobacco smoking without the attendant carcinogens.  They produce no toxic second hand smoke and have a proven track record of being an effective means for hard core smokers to quit, with a good many two packs-a-day smokers never going back once they’ve tried vaping.  E-cigs, by any other measure would seem to be the ideal flagship product for the US Government to endorse and recommend.  And yet, the pundits in D.C. have routinely tried to ban, outlaw and regulate the availability and use of electronic cigarettes.  From having them banned as a drug delivery device to prohibiting their use on airplanes—their efforts have been unstinting. </p>
<h3>Why?</h3>
<p>The folks with the most to lose should tobacco be outlawed completely and a safe and accessible alternative be put in its place would seem to be Big Tobacco itself.  Conventional cigarettes have been delivering the demon drug nicotine for a few centuries now, and while tobacco smoking has fallen out of favor, there has been no effort to have paper cigarettes outlawed as a “drug delivery device”—even though nicotine isn’t  on the Drug Enforcement Agency’s  list of controlled substances; and yet, e-cigs have faced just that designation battle.  Tobacco products have resulted in the deaths of millions&#8212; both smokers and those afflicted by cancers, emphysema and other illnesses by second hand smoke, and yet for all the public place smoking bans and Surgeon General’s warnings&#8212;cigarettes are one of the least regulated products in the nation.</p>
<p>It should come as no surprise that for all the rhetoric, Big Tobacco is a strong lobbying presence in the nation’s capital.  The parent company to Philip Morris USA spent almost $14 million dollars last year alone in lobbying efforts aimed at the federal government.   And you can bet that the continued harassment that e-cigs face is a result of a good bit of D.C. palm greasing.</p>
<p>Instead of trying to block and outlaw an increasingly popular and effective smoking cessation device, the United States Government should be ratifying the US signing of the global tobacco treaty and approving the <a href="http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-1256">Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act</a> – H.R.1256 , which seeks to subject tobacco to the same regulation as almost all other products in the marketplace. </p>
<p>Maybe it’s time to demand a little accountability from our legislators when it comes to who is accepting Big Tobacco money and find out just how far those we send to enact laws to protect us, are doing just the opposite!</p>

<p>Your two key preventative strategies include avoiding contact with infected people or surfaces and keeping your nails dry and ventilated at all times.  You&#8217;ll see one of these theme underpinning each of the bullets below.</p>
<p><strong>Are your habits putting you at risk?</strong></p>

<li>Do you pick your nails or the skin that surrounds them? Any injury or trauma to the skin may reduce your local immunity and provide an easy entry point for infected fungal spores.</li>
<li>Do you wear tight feet that press against your nails. Again this may increase your likelihood of infection.</li>
<li>Do you have one pair of favorite shoes that you wear day in and day out? (If you can&#8217;t bear to throw them out, get hold of some antifungal powder and shake this into them on a weekly basis).</li>
<li>Do you wash your socks on the cold cycle?</li>
<li>Do you own plastic shoes that are not well ventilated. (Remember fungi do best in damp, protected, warm and dark environments)</li>
<li>Are your socks made from synthetic materials? (Natural cotton is best)</li>
<li>Do you walk around barefoot in public shower rooms or locker rooms? (Take extra special care where floors are damp.)</li>
<li>Do you suffer from repeated athletes foot infections that you ignore rather than treat? (It&#8217;s caused by the same fungus)</li>
<li>Do you exercise, get sweaty but then wait a few hours until you change into fresh clothes, shoes and socks?</li>
<li>Do you forget to dry yourself thoroughly after showering?</li>
<li>Do you participate in contact sports?</li>
<li>Do you share personal items with other people (for example towels, nail instruments, socks?)</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As an only child, I spent a lot of time with my parents.  They instilled a lot of great values in me, but I also picked up a few of their bad habits.  One of the worst habits was the idea that food is your friend.  They never said that, of course, but when I was happy, sad, bored, or nearly any other emotion, they were the first to whip out ice cream, a bag of chips, or a perfectly buttered piece of bread to give me something else to think about.  It seemed harmless at first, but as I grew up and life got harder, I found myself turning to food frequently for comfort.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve noticed that a lot of people in my life turn to food, alcohol, prescription medication, or cigarettes as their best friend.  So many people are dependent on some external factor to get them through their days.  Rather than ignoring the true issues, what would happen if we all confronted our problems as they happened?</p>
<p>I started doing that when I started down a path to <a href="http://www.christieinge.com/intuitive-eating">intuitive eating</a>.  Instead of putting restrictions on food and jumping back and forth between overeating and under eating, I decided to start paying attention to my true feelings.</p>
<p>It was the hardest thing I&#8217;ve ever done.  Feelings and emotions are not easy, but we have to pay attention to them or we&#8217;ll never get where we want to be in life.  Putting off working through the difficult moments only guarantees we&#8217;ll never really get anywhere.  Since I&#8217;ve started eating intuitively, I&#8217;ve experienced every single emotion you could imagine.  I&#8217;ve also made more progress in my life since starting on the journey than I had in the last five years.  Instead of delaying progress, I pushed through.</p>
<p>What is the crutch that gets you through life without feeling your feelings?  What would happen if you let go of it for a day, a week, a month, a year?  You might be surprised at what&#8217;s on the other side.</p>
